2023 represented an important milestone for Major League Soccer, a league that after the signings of players such as Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi, has begun to open the door to more top players worldwide in the coming years.

And it looks like 2024 will be the start of it all, as according to reports from journalist Caleb Pongratz, MLS is preparing to expand the number of Designated Players allowed on each team in the league to four.

It is worth remembering that currently each team is entitled to three Designated Players, however, the arrival of Messi would have completely changed the vision of the top brass within Major League Soccer and would open the door for each team to add an extra top player to their squads.
