Reus confirms he is leaving Dortmund

ToggleLast week, Reus issued a statement, detailing his plan to move on this summer as a free agent. “I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day – even though there have also been difficult times too. I know that I am going to find it difficult to say goodbye when the end of the season arrives.
“But I am happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play. We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years,” he wrote.

Inter Miami, LAFC? Where could Reus go?
After becoming a living legend of German football at Signal Iduna Park, Reus will say goodbye after the Champions League final on 1 June. The player confirmed a few weeks ago that he will not renew his contract with the club, which concludes at the end of June. Several MLS franchises been trying to secure a contract with the player during the past few months, although at the moment the identity of the interested parties has not been revealed.
Inter Miami could well be an option for the former Germany international. Tata Martino is looking to strengthen the team’s midfield and gaining a highly experienced player on a free transfer would be an attractive proposal. Reus’ compatriot Bastian Schweinsteiger spent a couple of seasons with the Chicago Fire, who have been struggling to hit form this season but are still not entirely out of the running for the playoffs. But it’s unlikely we will see Reus follow suit – if he does so to MLS, it will undoubtedly be to a club with realistic options of silverware. Los Angeles could also be an option.
