Cumulus Media launches betting-focused radio station in Bay Area

BayStation

Broadcasting company Cumulus Media has launched 810 The Spread, delivering sports betting news and insights to listeners in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cumulus called bettors in the populous California locale “underserved,” something The Spread sets out to rectify.

The new station will purportedly offer “behind-the-book” perspectives from experts, such as Joe Ostrowski and Jim Rome.

“810 The Spread joins our sports brands KNBR 680AM/104.5FM and 1050 KTCT for a trifecta of dynamic sports content across four signals and streaming everywhere.

“We are excited about this new chapter and look forward to serving the Bay Area’s passionate sports fans in an incomparable way,” said Larry Blumhagen, Vice President/Market Manager for Cumulus San Francisco.

Five shows make up The Spread’s weekday programming roster. Bet QL Daily kicks things off at 6am, followed by Jim Rome’s eponymous show at 9am and You Better You Bet at 12pm.

This latter show is hosted by Nick Kostos and Ken Barkley, who provide wagering tips. BetMGM Tonight then runs from 4pm before CBS Sports Radio takes over at 8pm and runs until midnight.

The new station has replaced Talk Radio KGO-AM, which occupied the 810 AM frequency for 80 years. A dedicated website has also been launched for The Spread: www.810thespread.com.

Kevin Graham, Program Director for 810 The Spread, added: “810 The Spread will be the Bay Area’s best bet for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts, and we are pleased to introduce sports betting radio to our community.”

In other news, a recent poll indicates that two ballot initiatives which would legalise sports betting in California are destined for failure.
