The original deal was agreed in 2019, with this new three-year extension confirming Betfred as World Matchplay title sponsor for a total of seven years.Betfred owner Fred Done said: “Our sponsorship of the Betfred World Matchplay has been a brilliant success for the past four years and I’m delighted that we’ll be working with the PDC until at least 2025.

“The Betfred World Matchplay is one of my favourite sporting events each year and the 2022 event has been a wonderful championship. You can see from the superb standard of the players and the brilliant, sell-out crowds in Blackpool just how much this tournament means to everyone and we’re already looking forward to 2023 and beyond.”

The Betfred World Matchplay 2022 attracted crowds of more than 20,000 fans to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool over its nine-day duration. Next year’s tournament will be from 15 to 23 July, with the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay taking place on 23 July.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter said: “The announcement of our new agreement with Betfred is a great way to end a memorable week.

“Betfred have enjoyed huge exposure over the past four years with their sponsorship of the World Matchplay and we’re delighted to continue to work with them for at least the next three years.”In July 2022, Betfred entered into a multi-year partnership with the Cincinnati Bengals, in a deal that will see Betfred become the Bengals’ official sports betting partner.#

Michael van Gerwen won his first World Matchplay since 2016 on Sunday (his third in total), coming back from behind to defeat world number one Gerwyn Price 18-14. He almost threw a nine-darter in the process, missing Double 12, although beaten finalist Price did throw a perfect leg the day before – in his semi-final against Danny Noppert.
