Carton, who currently co-hosts ‘Carton & Roberts’ on WFAN 101.9 FM in New York, will front FanDuel’s efforts to promote safer gambling behaviours.
The sports radio and TV personality will work with the operator to tackle problem gambling, taking a three-pronged approach that includes advocacy, prevention awareness and content development focused on the importance of wagering within limits.
Commenting on this announcement, Carton revealed how much this opportunity meant to him: “It was important to me that I find a real partnership with a company that shared my passion for this issue.
“It became clear FanDuel shared the same goals and was comfortable working transparently with me for the sole purpose of protecting people.”
Carton was arrested in 2017 on fraud charges after spending $5.6m that he received as kickbacks for his support of a ticket reselling business, some of which went towards his gambling habit.
The radio host affirmed that this partnership represents a chance to use his experience in helping others who might be going through similar struggles.
“My story and personal history with gambling has been well documented,” continued Carton. “More than ever, I want to use my experience and platform to shine a meaningful spotlight on the issue of problem gambling.
Carton will join the operator’s Responsible Gaming Steering Committee, chaired by FanDuel’s President and Interim CEO, Amy Howe, where he will work to shape company policy.
His role will involve speaking events throughout the States as well as helping to promote and design content for FanDuel’s responsible gambling ad campaigns and offering his insight on the company’s AI development to spot problematic play patterns.
Mike Raffensperger, Chief Marketing Officer of the FanDuel Group, welcomed Carton on board: “We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Craig to place even more emphasis on responsible gaming behaviors.
“Everyone at FanDuel understands the importance of protecting our customers who are also our family, friends, neighbours and community members. Craig’s powerful personal story will help fuel our mission of making sure no bet placed results in hurting a loved one.”
